Bay

definition:

in merchandising parlance this refers to a length of shelving containing a group of products or a category of products. Most often this is where one or two shelf lengths feature a particular category. For example, in a pharmacy, there might be 2 shelf lengths (i.e.: 2 x 900mm) of Cough & Cold Medication, while a liquor store might have two shelf lengths of chips/crisps. A shelf length is often referred to as a bay, but in some cases the two shelf lengths might be referred to as a bay. Bay sizes do vary and in any measurement of this across stores in a group, chain or industry the definition of what constitutes a bay will have to be carefully defined.
