Sales per Employee Calculator Explained:

(a) What is this? This sales $ income generated for each dollar invested in wages.

(b) What does this tell me? This is useful measure of productivity of staff. The number is not only influenced by the sales and wages, but also the sales mix. For example, wages may stay static, while inflationary costs may inflate the value of sales $

(c) Why should I use it? To determine how well your staff are providing appropriate levels of customer service - as measured in sales. A key question when adding staff hours is will they help contribute to this number improving. There are other things you can do to improve the number such as increasing sales through the use of good plan-o-grams, intelligent purchasing of new lines and effective promotions.

(d) Caution: This calculator by itself is misleading. It does not consider profit at all, nor does it consider the value of sales or whether they are increasing or decreasing. Those are critical business measures and they should be used in conjunction with at least Net Sales, GP%, GP$ and total expenses. Any decisions you make are entirely at your own risk.
